The Reflection Room
A moment for reflection.
Reveal cards for your Sun sign, set down a thought, talk with Solace, or flip a coin. One brief action can be enough.
IV · The Tarot Cabinet
Your sign. Three cards. A daily reflection.
Daily spread · Opening today’s spread
Choose your Sun sign to open a spread made for its symbolism. One card carries a traditional connection to your sign; two companions offer something to release and something to nourish. Each sign gets a different three-card set, changing after your local midnight and staying steady through the day.
No birthday needed. Your Sun sign stays with you in this tab if your browser permits it. Not sure? See the sign dates.

How your sign connects to the cards
We use the Golden Dawn correspondences recorded in Book T, alongside our Waite–Smith artwork. Each sign has a Major Arcana card and three numbered cards linked to its three ten-degree divisions, called decans.
Your first card rotates through those four connections. Two companions come from a shared pool of 30 other cards: the Aces, court cards, and remaining Major Arcana. Magic Almanac’s original daily sequence uses your sign and local calendar date, so the same sign always gets the same cards today, even after refreshing. Card sets differ between signs, although individual cards may be shared.
The historical connections are sourced; the daily sequence and reflection prompts are our own creative interpretation. This is not a live planetary forecast or a prediction of events. Dramatic names such as Death or The Devil describe symbolic themes, not something destined to happen to you.
This tradition uses twelve signs. Ophiuchus remains in our learning guide as a bonus constellation, without an invented Golden Dawn assignment. Only your chosen Sun sign is kept in this tab's session; no birth details are saved or sent.

V · The Celestial Almanac
A real reading for the day, the week, and the month.
Choose a sign, then turn the brass dial through three horizons. Every daily edition is original and changes after your local midnight; weekly readings turn on Monday, and monthly readings on the first.
Browse any sign here without changing the Sun sign you chose for your cards. Aries is shown as an example until you choose one.

Sun, Moon & Rising. Three ways into your chart.
When someone says “I’m a Leo,” they usually mean their Sun sign. A birth chart, also called a natal chart, places the sky at a particular time and place into a symbolic map. The Sun, Moon, and Rising are often called the “big three.” Each answers a different kind of question.
The central light
Sun sign
The zodiac sign occupied by the Sun when you were born.
In astrology: identity, purpose, and the qualities you express as you grow into yourself.
What gives me a sense of direction?
The inner weather
Moon sign
The zodiac sign occupied by the Moon when you were born.
In astrology: feelings, instinctive habits, and what helps you feel cared for and at home.
What helps me feel emotionally safe?
The eastern horizon
Rising sign
Also called the Ascendant: the zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon at your birth time and place. It is a point on the horizon, not a planet.
In astrology: your approach to new situations and the first impression you tend to make.
How do I begin meeting the world?
Read them together
For example, an Aries Sun, Cancer Moon, and Libra Rising might be read as a desire to act, a need for emotional security, and a considerate way of approaching people. The three placements can be different signs or share a sign. They are lenses for reflection, not rules about who you must be.
Why time and place matter
Earth’s rotation changes the sign on the eastern horizon. Rising therefore needs an accurate birth time and birthplace. Time also matters when the Sun or Moon is near a sign change. If you do not know your birth time, leave it blank in the calculator below; it will show uncertainty instead of inventing a Rising sign.
More chart words: planets, houses, aspects & elements
- Planets
- Astrologers give each planet a symbolic role: Mercury for communication, Venus for affection and values, Mars for drive and action, Jupiter for growth, and Saturn for limits and responsibility. Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto appear in many modern readings. The Sun and Moon are often grouped with them as chart placements, though they are not planets in astronomy.
- Houses
- Twelve divisions of a chart associated with areas of life, such as home, relationships, and work. Their arrangement depends on birth time, location, and the house system used.
- Aspects
- Angles between placements. For example, a conjunction puts two placements close together, while an opposition places them roughly 180 degrees apart. Astrologers interpret these as relationships between symbols.
- Elements
- Four traditional groups: fire suggests energy and initiative; earth suggests practicality and steadiness; air suggests ideas and exchange; water suggests feeling and imagination. Each group contains three signs.
- Life Path
- A number derived from a birth date in numerology. It belongs to a different symbolic tradition from astrology; it is not a planet, sign, or astronomical measurement.
This page calculates Sun, Moon, Rising, and a numerology Life Path. It does not calculate other planetary placements, houses, or aspects.
Magic Almanac uses the Western tropical zodiac: twelve equal divisions of the Sun’s apparent path, beginning at the March equinox. These signs share names with constellations but are not the same as today’s astronomical constellation boundaries. The positions are calculated; the meanings are traditional interpretations. Astrology is not scientifically established as a way to determine personality or predict events. Read NASA’s explanation of constellations and astrology.
Meet the twelve · Plus a thirteenth curiosity
The signs: personality, strengths & challenges.
Open any sign for a fuller picture of how it is commonly described in Western astrology, including its strengths, possible challenges, and the story behind its symbol. These are traditional portrayals for reflection; people with the same sign can be very different.
The zodiac’s images grew across cultures, including Babylonian, Greek, and Roman traditions. The myths below are selected versions of those stories. Our Greek god pairings draw on planetary connections and shared symbolism, rather than one fixed ancient list.
The dates beside the twelve signs are typical tropical Sun-sign dates. Exact transitions vary with the year and time zone; if your birthday falls near a boundary, use your birth details in the calculator. Explore the traditional date ranges.
You can explore the twelve traditional signs through a Sun, Moon, or Rising placement. These themes describe a symbolic tradition, not a fixed personality type. Ready to find your placements? Try the celestial map below.
