Return to the almanac

Project note · Colophon

What this almanac is made of.

Magic Almanac is an independent demonstration by Magic: constructive reporting, symbolic reflection, public-domain material, and careful software gathered into one adult digital refuge.

Evidence before optimism

Every news item names its reporting institution and links to the original report. Summaries are newly written, limitations remain visible, and the linked publisher—not this almanac—remains the authority for the underlying claim. Daily story artwork is generated as editorial illustration rather than source evidence; its provenance remains part of the publication record without repeating a disclaimer beneath every image.

Symbolic material

Oracle, zodiac, numerology, and tarot writing is offered for reflection, not certainty. Tarot artwork comes from the public-domain 1909 Waite–Smith Roses & Lilies edition illustrated by Pamela Colman Smith, using Saskia Jansen scans preserved by Wikimedia Commons.

The Five Measures

The personality portrait uses the public-domain 50-item IPIP Big-Five Factor Markers associated with Lewis R. Goldberg’s Big Five work. Official item order, response anchors, and positive/reverse scoring are preserved. Magic Almanac adds the visual system and original, non-diagnostic result prose—not a new instrument.

Celestial calculations

Sun, Moon, and Rising calculations run locally with Astronomy Engine and civil time-zone conversion. GeoNames supplies the locally searched city index. When a birth time is unknown, the interface withholds a Rising sign rather than inventing one. Life Path follows one disclosed numerology convention.

Software and AI

The site is built with React, Next-compatible server rendering, TypeScript, CSS, Three.js, and a small Cloudflare-backed database for bounded operational needs. Solace and the optional live source desk use OpenRouter with Google Gemini 3.7 Flash. AI is named where it appears; it does not score the personality portrait.

Authorship

Concept, curation, product direction, and the final assembled experience are by Magic. The work is noncommercial and exists to offer people a little evidence, perspective, and room to breathe while demonstrating what careful digital craft can feel like.
